A LIFE ILLUMINATED BY THE STARS
Mostafa Khosravi is an Iranian-born journalist, night sky photographer, and science communicator who has devoted his life to exploring the intersection of art, science, and nature. Currently based in Sutri, Italy, Mostafa has become a prominent voice in promoting the preservation of dark skies and raising awareness about the beauty of the cosmos, as well as the threats posed by light pollution.
EARLY LIFE AND INSPIRATION
Born in 1983 in Iran, Mostafa’s fascination with the stars began during his childhood. Growing up surrounded by nature, he frequently ventured into the wilderness to escape the city lights and observe the night sky in its purest form. This passion led him to study astronomy during high school and later pursue material engineering at university. His love for astronomy and wildlife became a driving force, inspiring him to document the universe through photography.
A JOURNEY THROUGH DARKNESS
Mostafa’s life took a dramatic turn at the age of 20, when he was arrested for his involvement in Iran’s student movement. During 40 days of solitary confinement, the faint light of the stars glimpsed through a narrow window became his symbol of hope and resilience. Following his participation in the 2009 Green Movement and facing increasing threats from the Iranian regime, he fled his homeland, leaving behind not just his country but also the dreams tied to it.
In exile, the night sky became his sanctuary and muse. Traveling thousands of kilometers across deserts, mountains, and tundras, Mostafa has sought the darkest skies to capture celestial phenomena such as eclipses, comets, meteors, and the northern lights.
ART MEETS SCIENCE
For Mostafa, photography is more than a medium; it is a bridge connecting humanity with the vastness of the cosmos. His work transforms the heavens into stunning narratives, blending the precision of science with the elegance of art. Each photograph tells a story, inviting viewers to reflect on their place in the universe while celebrating its infinite beauty.
His photographs have been featured in Iranian publications like *Astronomy* and *Red Carpet* magazines, as well as international online media platforms. Beyond photography, Mostafa works as a freelance journalist, collaborating with various international outlets to shed light on issues ranging from environmental conservation to human rights.
PLANTARIUMS AND SCIENCE MUSEUMS
In addition to his work in photography and journalism, Mostafa specializes in designing and creating both fixed and mobile planetariums. He collaborates with scientific institutions and private investors to bring immersive educational experiences to diverse audiences. His expertise also extends to consulting on the design and development of science museums, helping to craft spaces that inspire curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of the natural world.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND ADVOCACY
Mostafa is not only a storyteller but also an advocate for preserving the natural night sky. He has been vocal about the need to combat light pollution, emphasizing its impact on both the environment and human well-being. His travels have taken him from the deserts of Iran to the aurora-filled skies of Iceland and Scandinavia, capturing moments that inspire awe and spark curiosity about the cosmos.
CURRENT WORK AND VISION
Now residing in Italy, Mostafa continues his dual mission as a truth-seeking journalist and an ambassador of the night sky. His expertise has attracted the attention of investors in Europe and the Middle East, with whom he collaborates on innovative projects, including immersive attractions inspired by his love for astronomy.
